Range of Test Scores and GPA

Students admitted to UC Irvine have a demonstrated record of academic and personal achievement. While UC Irvine does not utilize a formula in selecting students, students admitted for the fall 2008 term share the following characteristics:
  • An average high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.94 (note: UC Irvine uses a maximum of 8 honors grade points in determining the GPA)

     

  • The middle 50% of the admitted class has an SAT Verbal score between 520 and 650 and a Mathematics score between 570 and 690

     

  • The average number of total "a-g " courses (full-year) taken by fall 2008 freshmen who were offered admission was 24

     

  • 96.7% of all students completed at least four years of mathematics

     

  • The typical student offered admission completed six (full-year) academic courses in the senior year

Distribution by Diversity and Geographical Area

  • The largest number of freshmen students will be enrolling from Los Angeles County, followed by Orange County, the Bay Area counties, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, and San Diego and Imperial Counties

     

  • The largest proportion of entering freshmen will start UC Irvine as Biological Sciences (23.2%), and then Undecided/Undeclared (16.0%), followed by Social Sciences (15.9%), Engineering (14.5%), Physical Sciences (7.6%), Humanities (7.3%), Arts (4.5%), Information and Computer Sciences (3.7%), Social Ecology (3.5%), and Health Sciences (1.9%).

     

  • Various ethnicities are represented in the enrolling freshmen class as follows: African-American 2.0%; Mexican-American 11.5%; Spanish-American 3.6%; American Indian <1%; Asian-American 55.3%; Caucasian 21.7%; Other 2.2%; and Decline to State 3.5%.
