  • 10,634 applicants applied for fall 2009 admission, of whom 87.3% are currently California Community College students

     

  • 6,451 applicants were offered admission, a 17.7% increase over fall 2008. Of these, 94% are attending a California Community College

     

  • Approximately 1,935 transfer students are expected to enroll this fall

Academic and Personal Achievement

Students admitted to UCI have a demonstrated record of academic and personal achievement and share the following characteristics:
  • 87.6% of admitted students report a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher

     

  • 98.8% of admitted students will complete 60 or more semester units prior to UC Irvine enrollment

     

  • Preference for admission was given to California Community College students who will have completed 60 or more transferable units by the time of entry to UC Irvine and who have met minimum UC eligibility. Students admitted to the following majors have met all prerequisite courses required for admission to the major: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, all Economics majors, all Engineering majors, Information and Computer Sciences majors, Mathematics, and Physics.

     

  • The largest proportion of entering transfer students will start UC Irvine as Social Science majors (38.3%), followed by Humanities (17.1%), Social Ecology (15.7%), Biological Sciences (8.6%), Engineering (7.0%), Arts (4.7%), Physical Sciences (4.2%), Information and Computer Sciences (2.5%), Health Sciences (1.7%), and Undecided/Undeclared (0.2%).

  • Various ethnicities are represented in the entering transfer students as follows: African-American 2.9%; Mexican-American 11.4%; Spanish-American 3.9%; American Indian 0.7%; Asian-American 45.0%; Caucasian 28.3%; Other 3.4%; and Decline to State 4.4%
