![]() UCI provides an environment that enables gifted students to experience, early on, life on a college campus. Its renowned Pre-College Gifted Students Academy offers a highly specialized curriculum designed to help gifted students begin to aim their sights toward a scholarly collegiate experience. Participants in the Academy may choose to commute from home or stay in a campus dormitory. They may select between one and four sessions of exciting major and elective courses. The Academy encourages you both to develop your academic talent and to experience the personal growth often achieved in a college setting. Its accelerated pace and advanced-level curriculum will help you define potential college majors and future careers. You'll feel more prepared to meet the increasingly selective admission standards for competitive universities such as the University of California. The Academy is geared to academically gifted students who will be entering grades 6 through 10 by summer of 2002. It will be offered at UCI in five sessions of one-week classes between June 24 and July 26, 2002. Academy participants can select one major course and one elective course for each session of attendance. Classes meet each Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Elective courses are held in the afternoons and are less intensive than the morning courses. All courses encourage development of critical, creative, and productive thinking skills. Major Courses (Morning)
