Applicants / Admitted / Enrolled
- A record number of 6,655 applicants applied for fall 2002 admission, of
whom 84% are currently California Community College students
- 4,432 applicants were offered admission, a 5.6% increase over fall 2001.
Of these, 86% are attending a California Community College
- 1,350 transfer students are expected to enroll this fall, UCI's largest
transfer class in campus history

Academic and Personal Achievement
Students admitted to UCI have a demonstrated record of academic and
personal achievement and share the following characteristics:
- 74% of admitted students report a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or
higher
- 94% of admitted students will complete 60 or more semester units prior
to UCI enrollment
- Students admitted to the following majors have met all prerequisite
courses required for admission to the major: Applied Ecology, Biological
Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Economics, all
Engineering majors, Information and Computer Science, Mathematics, and
Physics. Preference for admission in all other majors was given to
California Community College students who will have completed 60 or more
transferable units by the time of entry to UCI and who have met minimum
UC eligibility
- The largest proportion of entering transfer students will start UCI as
Social Science majors (32%), followed by Humanities (20%), Social Ecology
(16%), Information and Computer Science (10%), Biological Sciences,
Engineering, and Arts (6%), and Physical Sciences (4%)

as follows:
African-American 2.2%;
Mexican-American 8.7%;
Spanish-American 3.5%;
American Indian 0.6%;
Asian-American 45.2%;
White/Caucasian 30.7%;
Other 2.2%; and
Decline to State 6.9%
