• 8,617 applicants applied for fall 2005 admission, of whom 89% are currently California Community College students

• 5,546 applicants were offered admission, a 0.1% decrease over fall 2004. Of these, 92% are attending a California Community College

• Approximately 1,650 transfer students are expected to enroll this fall

Academic and Personal Achievement

• 85% of admitted students report a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher

• 88% of admitted students will complete 60 or more semester units prior to UCI enrollment

• Preference for admission was given to California Community College students who will have completed 60 or more transferable units by the time of entry to UCI and who have met minimum UC eligibility. Students admitted to the following majors have met all prerequisite courses required for admission to the major: Applied Ecology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Economics, all Engineering majors, Information and Computer Sciences majors, Mathematics, and Physics.

• The largest proportion of entering transfer students will start UCI as Social Science majors (36%), followed by Humanities (16%), Social Ecology (16%), Biological Sciences (10%), Engineering (6%), Information and Computer Sciences (6%), and Physical Sciences (5%), and Arts (5%)

• Various ethnicities are represented in the entering transfer students as follows:
  African-American 2.3%; Mexican-American 9.7%; Spanish-American 2.8%; American Indian <1%; Asian-American 42.7%; Caucasian 30.4%; Other 3.1%; and Decline to State 8.5%
