Can I have the application fee waived?

There are several ways to apply for a fee waiver. To qualify, you must meet the same income and family size guidelines, regardless of the method of application you use. If you are a high school student, use the College Board fee waiver available from your school counselor. If you are a qualified community college student, you may qualify for a fee waiver through the EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services program). Other students may be eligible for a UC fee waiver authorization, which is available at any UC Admissions, Relations with Schools, or EOP office. If you are unable to obtain a UC fee waiver authorization, you may simply attach a letter to your application stating your gross family income and the number of family members supported by that income and request consideration for a fee waiver.

How does UCI calculate the GPA?

For freshmen, UCI uses the University of California GPA calculation guidelines which are outlined in the UC Application for Admission, however, UCI limits the number of extra points awarded certified Honors and Advanced Placement courses to a maximum of eight semesters. For transfer students, the GPA is calculated using your transferable course work only.

Does UCI accept applications for winter or spring term?

UC Irvine may accept applications for the winter term from a limited group of applicants, such as students transferring from a California community college who are projecting junior level standing. However, not all majors and academic programs may be open for winter quarter transfers. The filing period for a winter quarter is during the month of July, and generally the decision to accept applications (or not) for winter quarter is posted on the University of California Web site in June. Enrollment opportunities at the UCI campus, including which majors and academic programs are available for new applicants, is available at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/apply_majors_uci.html.

UC Irvine does not accept applications for spring quarter.

I've already submitted my application. How do I add the Irvine campus to my list of choices if I did not initially select it?

Do not submit a second application form; it will not be processed. Instead, submit your request in writing to the central processing service at the following address:

University of California
Undergraduate Application Processing Service
P.O. Box 4010
Oakland, CA 94524-4010

Be sure to note your application ID number, Social Security number, the additional campus(es) to which you wish to apply, major(s), major code(s), and include a check or money order for $60 for each additional campus you select, payable in U.S. dollars to the "Regents of the University of California." You may not substitute new campus choices for your original choices. Your request will be processed only if the campus(es) you choose has space available. The processing service will notify you about whether your application was accepted.

I have taken the SAT/ACT exams more than once. Does UC Irvine use my highest scores?

Yes. UC Irvine will use the highest composite score from a single sitting, if it is reported to us. NOTE: Make sure that you have each score released to us that you intend to be part of your application record. Complications commonly arise for applicants who have not released their scores and/or who have only released part of their scores.

Where do I send transcripts or letters of recommendation?

UC Irvine will evaluate your application based on the academic record you reported in your application. If your are admitted to UC Irvine, you will then be requested to submit official copies of your transcripts and test scores (for freshman applicants), to verify your academic record.
