Admissions and Relations with Schools Staff
- The Public Information section receives and responds
to inquires about the campus from a wide variety of sources - other
college personnel, high school and college counselors, parents,
teachers, prospective students, applicants, continuing UCI
students - actually anyone who asks for assistance and direction.
In addition, Public Information provides applications and UC Irvine
information regarding filing dates, options and general admissions
and selection information to prospective freshman and transfer
students.
- The Relations with Schools section of OARS is responsible
for many kinds of outreach efforts to prospective students, to
applicants, and the public. These include programs for
- gifted middle school students (Academic Talent Search)
- high school students planning to apply , as well as for honors seniors (Honors Day)
- early advising for transfer students through:
- Transfer Centers at California Community Colleges
- the Transfer Track Program, and
- Reentry Student Services, for returning students who may have been out of school for a while.
Outreach efforts by this section of OARS include partnership programs with other school and college administrators and faculty designed to strengthen academic preparation of prospective students and to share information and resources (Alternative Assessment Project).
- The Admissions section of OARS is responsible for admitting
students to UC Irvine. The counseling and evaluating staff:
- implement guidelines and policies for the selection and admission of new students
- evaluate self-reported information, and validate such information with official records
- evaluate and interpret international records and test scores and advise international students
- create the official UCI record for incoming students, and forward annotated records to the academic unit, and
- provide advice and counseling to new students, parents, and school officials regarding UC requirements.
- The Records Management section conducts the processing of
information into OARS (written and electronic requests for brochures
and applications, the actual applications, transcripts, test scores,
and the like) as well as information going out of OARS (letters to
students, brochures and materials to prospective students and
interested parties, materials to other institutions).
- The Technical Section brings the latest technology to the processing of applications for admission. This section generates all letters to students, assists in the electronic processing of lists and labels, and transcripts from other institutions. Besides serving the office in general, the technical staff shares its knowledge, skills, and resources with other constituents on campus and across the UC system.
