    Transfer Contract for Provisional Admission

Your admission to UCI is provisional. To maintain our offer of admission, you must meet the conditions listed in the transfer contract.

  • If you are a freshman student entering UCI in fall quarter 2017, you must take the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam. Enrollment in any English composition course at UCI is dependent upon the results of this exam, unless UCI has on record by April 1, 2017, that you have met the Entry Level Writing Requirement through one of the following options:

    1. You have received a score of 30 or better on the ACT with Writing test; or
    2. You have received a score of 680 or better on the SAT, Writing section; or
    3. You have received a score of 3, 4, or 5 on either of the two College Board Advanced Placement Examinations in English; or
    4. You have received a score of 5 or above on the International Baccalaureate's (IB) Higher Level English A Examination; or
    5. You have received a score of 6 or above on the International Baccalaureate's (IB) Standard Level English A Examination; or
    6. You have completed a transferable college English composition course with a grade of "C" or better; or
    7. You have achieved a satisfactory ACT, SAT Writing or AP English score

All students who have not satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement by one of the above options are required to take the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam before they can enroll in any required writing course at UCI. For out-of-state students and students unable to take the exam, the exam will also be given on campus during Welcome Week in September. Be advised, however, that if you wait until Welcome Week to take the exam, you will not be able to enroll in a writing course until winter quarter 2018 at the earliest.

Regardless of your UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam results, they do not affect your admissibility to UCI. If you have any questions regarding the Analytical Writing Placement Examination, please check the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam web page at or call (800) 839-8507, or contact your high school counselor. You may call the UCI Testing Office at (949) 824-6207 to register for the Welcome Week (September 2016) exam. If you have questions about UCI's preparatory writing courses, call the UCI Composition Office at (949) 824-6717.

  • The UCI Testing Center administers placement examinations to new students to ensure correct placement in certain introductory courses.

Exams are offered in chemistry, mathematics (precalculus and mathematical analysis), physics, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese, and English-as-a-Second-Language. All necessary placement exams should be completed before you attend an academic advising session; therefore, we strongly recommend that you take your placement exams as early as possible.

    Testing Office Website:

For testing dates, contact the Testing Office online or at (949) 824-6207.

  • In order to receive credit for Advanced Placement, IB, or college-level work completed elsewhere, you must:

    1. Submit an official report for all of your Advanced Placement (AP) examination scores (3 or above) and/or International Baccalaureate Higher Level (IB) examination results (5 or above) taken prior to January 1, 2017. To have AP scores sent to UCI, call (888) 225-5427; our campus code is 4859. Please note: to ensure we receive a complete set of AP scores, you need to individually specify the test year(s) that the AP Exam(s) were taken when you make your request. To have IB scores sent to UCI, contact the International Baccalaureate Office at (301) 202-3025 or visit and see IB Answers. Official reports are those sent directly to UCI electronically by these services. For exams taken after January 1, 2017, submit an official report for all of your AP scores (3 or above) and/or IB scores (5 or above) as soon as the results are available or they may not be credited towards your record. Note that AP exam scores will not be accepted via high school or college transcripts.
    2. By July 1, 2017, submit an official transcript of all college work completed. Transcripts of summer session 2017 courses must arrive no later than September 15, 2017.
  • Freshmen:

During your orientation, you may request to have your major changed. The change must be approved by the dean or director of the applicable school or program for the major you wish to change to. You may also use the change of major tool within your MyAdmission portal to make your request.

Send a change my major message via the message center in your MyAdmission portal, and it will be reviewed.

  • In most cases, applicants are admitted to their first-choice major. Because of enrollment criteria for certain majors, it is possible that you have been admitted to an "alternate-choice" major. Please note that to change to your "first-choice" major after enrolling at UCI requires approval from the dean or director of the applicable school or program. This approval is neither automatic nor guaranteed. You should contact the academic counseling office for your preferred major to obtain information on change-of-major policies. You can also view the change of majors criteria for current UCI students at

  • All entering students are automatically sent a preview of summer session courses in late spring. Over 400 courses are offered in the six- and 10-week sessions. Summer Session courses may be used to satisfy various University, GE, and major requirements. Course offerings include preparatory or first-year chemistry and math, as well as Writing 39A which fulfills the Entry Level Writing Requirement. During the summer, intensive language courses fulfilling a year's language requirement are also offered. Coursework taken at UCI Summer Session will be recorded on your UCI transcript. For further information, contact the UCI Summer Session Office, P.O. Box 6050, Irvine, CA 92616-6050; telephone (949) 824-5493; e-mail:; website:

  • Entering freshmen should plan to complete their course of study in four years. Students who wish to be assured of earning their degree in a timely manner should contact the academic counseling office for their major to receive information about Finish-in-Four Advising and assistance in developing a detailed curricular plan.

  • Final transcripts are due to the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools by July 1.

This deadline applies to freshman admitted students who have chosen to accept UCI's offer of admission AND have submitted their Statement of Intent to Register form.

Final test scores are due to the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools by July 15.
