Preparations While in High School
(Juniors and Seniors)
There are several components to being not only eligible to the
University of California, Irvine, but to being a competitive applicant.
Among other things, you need to:
- have completed a strong academic preparation
- have strong test scores
- be an all-around, involved student
- be able to think independently and critically
- have good study habits
Listed below are some sites to guide you on your path to UC Irvine. To see
the WHOLE PICTURE, make sure you visit EACH site.
- The Courses: This is a definition of the
minimum pattern of high school courses a student must be taking in
preparation for consideration for admission to the University. This is
called the "a - g pattern" of courses or the subject requirement.
- Scholarship and Honors Courses: This explains how
your course and grades come together to create a grade point average used
to determine UC eligibility; and it defines what honors courses are
(by University of California definition) and their importance.
- Tests: This shows you the required pattern of tests
used with your courses and grades for UC eligibility.
- Selection of freshmen students: This
explains how UC Irvine selects freshmen students. This is an important page so
be sure to view the material carefully.
- Preparing to write the personal
statement: As the time for actually applying comes close, you may
wish to review the components of a strong personal statement or
essay, since you will need to write one. This will show you what a
convincing statement is... and what it is not!
