What to do next …
8. Take placement test(s).
Many courses require placement test results in order for you to register. Some courses - for example, language and writing courses - may require placement test results in order for you to register. Placement testing is offered between June and September on UCI's campus for those requiring a placement test to meet a course prerequisite. Distance tests can also be arranged through the Academic Testing Center only if you are in the United States. If you are unable to attend a Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP), please discuss placement test(s) with our academic advisor. Visit the Academic Testing Center website at www.testingcenter.uci.edu to obtain important information about UCI's placement tests.
9. Attend Student-Parent Orientation Program (SPOP).
The Student-Parent Orientation Program is a mandatory program for all freshmen and is offered multiple times between mid-July and mid-August. At SPOP, freshmen receive a comprehensive orientation to UCI, academic advising, program planning, and course registration. Campus tours, social activities, and meeting current and new UC Irvine students are also part of the orientation experience.
In order to enroll in courses for fall quarter, you will need to either sign-up for a SPOP date or request an Exception if you are unable to attend.
If you are unable to travel to Irvine during the summer to attend SPOP, you must ask for an Exception to attend; this is handled online. If an Exception for SPOP is granted, you will be contacted with information on how to sign up for a mandatory alternative orientation program, which will take place in September 2013. For more information, please visit the orientation website at www.students.uci.edu/orientation.
Our goal is to make sure we provide you with academic advising either: a) through attendance at a SPOP or, b) via an Exception which will allow you to obtain academic advising either over the phone or during a later advising session once you arrive at UCI.
10. Pay Fees.
Check your ZOT account online to see your registration fees and other charges, as well as any financial aid, waivers or payments credited to your account at https://zotaccount.uci.edu. Be sure to pay the amount due by the fee deadline to avoid late charges and dropped courses.
11. Attend an International Center Check-In Session.
All new international students are required to check-in with the International Center to report your arrival at UCI. During the session, International Center advisors will review immigration requirements and assist you with a successful SEVIS check-in process. Your visa documents will be reviewed and youwill have an opportunity to receive answers to your questions.
Dates for check-in sessions for fall 2013 TBD.
