Accepting Admission to UCI

Freshmen and transfer students, the steps below will guide you through the process of accepting admission into the University of California, Irvine.  Log into your MyAdmissionsApplication@UCI account at www.admissions.uci.edu to regularly check the Message Center and for specific details.  Also included is information on ‘next steps’ once you arrive on campus.


FRESHMEN

What to do now …

1. Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by May 1st.

Your SIR and nonrefundable $100 Acceptance of Admission Fee (if requested) is the key to reserving your space at UCI. The freshman SIR deadline is May 1, 2011 or the date specified on your admissions letter.

2. Submit your Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) by May 1st.

The information you provide on your SLR is used to determine your residence classification for tuition fee purposes.

3. Submit your Housing Application by May 1st.

In order to submit a housing application you must have submitted a positive SIR.

4. Submit your Confidential Financial Statement (CFS) by May 1st.

Go to your MyAdmissionsApplication@UCI account on the Admissions website at www.admissions.uci.edu. Under “Steps to Enrollment” item #6, you will find the Confidential Financial Statement (CFS).  Print the CFS and obtain the required signatures with dates.  Signatures must be in blue ink.

Mail the signed CFS and a current official bank statement to:

The information requested in the CFS and the bank statement are needed to issue you a Form I-20. You will need the Form I-20 to apply for your F-1 Visa.

5. Submit a photocopy of your passport biographical page to the UCI International Center.

Mail a photocopy to:

6. Check the mail for your Form I-20.

The UCI Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools will review your CFS and bank statement, and will make a request to the UCI International Center for a Form I-20. The International Center will process your Form I-20 within 15-30 business days and mail your Form I-20 to the address stated on the CFS.

7. Apply for F-1 Visa.

Students without an F-1 Visa need to apply for one. After you receive your Form I-20, you may apply for an F-1 Visa. Visit the U.S. Department of State at:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html (See “Note” below)

8. Request your official transcripts and test scores.

Final official transcripts and test scores are due in the UC Irvine Office of Admissions by July 15, 2011.  Transcripts for any summer session courses in which you enroll are due by September 15, 2011.

NOTE:  Students with an F-1 Visa currently in the U.S. must transfer their F-1 student status to UC Irvine by completing the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Record Release Form.  The form is available on the International Center’s website www.ic.uci.edu. Print the SEVIS form, follow the instructions, and mail the form to:

After you arrive on campus …
Please plan to complete the following additional steps for fall quarter enrollment.

1. Attend the Student – Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) and the New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview.

    Attend SPOP and the New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview to receive academic
    advising, register for courses, and handle any issues that are specific to
    International students.

    See the following sections regarding SPOP, request for Exception, and the
    New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview.

2. Take placement test(s).

    Many courses require placement test results in order for you to register. Placement
    testing is offered between June and September on UCI’s campus for those requiring a
    placement exam to meet a course prerequisite. Note: If you are unable to attend a
    SPOP, please discuss Placement Test(s) with your Academic Counselor.

    Visit www.testingcenter.uci.edu to obtain important testing information.

3. Pay fees.

    Check your ZOT account online to see your registration fees and other charges, as
    well as any financial aid, waivers or payments credited to your account at
    https://zotaccount.uci.edu. Be sure to pay the amount due by the fee deadline to avoid
    late charges and dropped courses.


Student-Parent Orientation Program (SPOP)

The Student-Parent Orientation Program is a mandatory program for all freshmen and is
offered multiple times between early July and mid-August. At SPOP, freshmen receive a
comprehensive orientation to UCI, academic advising, program planning, and course
registration. Campus tours, social activities, and meeting current and new UC Irvine
students are also part of the orientation experience.

In order to enroll in courses for fall quarter, you will need to either sign-up for a SPOP date or request an Exception if you are unable to attend.

If you are unable to travel to Irvine during the summer to attend SPOP, you must ask for an Exception to attend; this is handled online.

To sign-up for a SPOP date or to request an Exception, please visit the orientation website at www.dos.uci.edu/orientation.

Our goal is to make sure we provide you with academic advising either: a) through attendance at a SPOP or, b) via an Exception which will allow you to obtain academic advising either over the phone or during a later advising session once you arrive at UCI.


New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview

The New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview is designed specifically for new international undergraduate students at UCI. All new international students are required to attend the orientation.

The New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview will provide students with important information about maintaining immigration status and living in the U.S. and Irvine. The program will familiarize students with resources of importance to international students, as well as provide an opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and students at UCI!

TRANSFER STUDENTS

What to do now …

What to do next …

1. Meet with your Academic Advisor and attend Transfer Success.

Meeting with your academic advisor is required to enroll in courses. Please contact your advisor to schedule an appointment. Visit www.admissions.uci.edu/resources/academic_counseling.html for academic advisors.

Transfer Success is an orientation program for new transfer students. The program is offered once in June and once in July; attendance is optional, however we hope you will join us!

2. Attend the New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview

All new international students are required to attend the New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview scheduled for September 20, 2011.

3. Take placement test(s).

Some courses – for example, language courses – may require placement test results in order for you to register. Placement testing is offered between June and September on UCI’s campus for those requiring a placement exam to meet a course prerequisite. Distance tests can also be arranged through the Academic Testing Center.

Note: Please discuss placement test(s) with your academic advisor.

4. Pay fees.

Check your ZOT account online to see your registration fees and other charges, as well as any financial aid, waivers or payments credited to your account at https://zotaccount.uci.edu. Be sure to pay the amount due by the fee deadline to avoid late charges and dropped courses.


Transfer Success
 
Our goal is for your transfer experience at UC Irvine to be positive and enriching, academically and socially. Join us for “Transfer Success” and enjoy an orientation program specially designed for new students like you who are transferring to the university.

At Transfer Success you’ll be able to meet in an informal setting with other new transfer students … you’ll also have the opportunity to interact with currently enrolled UCI students and learn “survival secrets” from the pros!

Transfer Success is an optional orientation program and does not include academic advising. However, the convenience of those attending the program, many academic units will be offering advising in the afternoon after Transfer Success. Make an appointment (required) for advising and make a day of it here at UCI. Appointments will be offered on a first-come first-serve basis.

The Transfer Student Center

The Transfer Student Center (TSC) is an office dedicated to assisting admitted transfer students with their transitional needs to UC Irvine. TSC is dedicated to informing transfer students of important UC Irvine resources and programs so as to enhance their studies and overall experience at the University. The Transfer Student Center conducts weekly resource workshops, publishes a newsletter twice each quarter, and is staffed by two full-time counselors along with Transfer Peer Mentors who offer advice and guidance. Additionally, the Transfer Student Center provides a warm and friendly atmosphere for students to study, socialize, and build a connection to the University and fellow transfer students.

New International Undergraduate Student Welcome: Campus Resources and Immigration Overview
