UC Irvine Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)
Fall 2008

A Program for California Community College Students Transferring to UC Irvine

What is TAG?

TAG - UC Irvine's Transfer Admission Guarantee program - offers on-the-spot provisional admission to well-qualified students from participating California Community Colleges. Although admission to UC Irvine is selective in most majors, through TAG, admission can be guaranteed for transfer students who meet the selection criteria (see "Selection Guidelines" below) and the application procedures described in this flyer.

Who Qualifies for TAG?

A TAG Community College applicant is defined as a student who:
  • (1) has completed their last 30 semester (45 quarter) UC transferable units at one or more California Community Colleges. Students who have completed course work at a post-secondary institution outside the US cannot be accommodated through TAG;

  • (2) was enrolled at one or more California Community Colleges for at least two terms, excluding summer sessions;

  • (3) attended a California Community College as their last college excluding summer sessions;

  • (4) will complete 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units) by the end of the quarter prior to enrolling at UC Irvine;

  • (5) will complete the minimum UC transfer admission requirements in:

    • two transferable courses in English composition;
    • one transferable course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning;
    • four transferable courses chosen from at least two of the following subject areas: the arts and humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the physical and biological sciences.

    The transferable mathematics and first transferable English composition course must be completed prior to the time of your appointment.

    The second transferable English composition course must be completed no later than spring 2008 for fall 2008 admission and by summer 2008 for winter 2009 admission;

  • (6) has attained at least the minimum GPA specified by the major you have chosen (refer to the "Selection Guidelines");

  • (7) will complete all of the course prerequisites (as stated in the "Selection Guidelines") for the major they have chosen to pursue prior to enrolling at UC Irvine - Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Economics (all majors), Engineering (all majors), Informatics, Information and Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.

  • NOTE: Arts and Humanities, Dance, Humanities and Arts, Humanities (Interdisciplinary), Music, Nursing Science, and Pharmaceutical Sciences do not participate in the TAG program.

Students who may not qualify for TAG and who wish to apply for admission to UC Irvine through the regular application process are encouraged to submit their transfer application during the appropriate deadline period for the quarter they wish to enter. They also should check with UC Irvine's Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools to learn which specific quarters at UC Irvine will be open for entry.

Intersegmental General education transfer curriculum (IGETC)

Completion of IGETC is not required for admission to UC Irvine although courses you have taken in fulfillment of IGETC may also be used to fulfill UC transfer admission requirements. However, with the exception of some majors, students will find it beneficial to complete IGETC, and have the completion certified by their Community College, prior to transferring to UC Irvine.

Procedures

BEFORE you can meet with a UC Irvine admissions counselor to review your application for TAG, you must complete the following three steps:

  • (1) Review the "Selection Guidelines" chart to determine if you qualify to proceed with your TAG application.
  • (2) Complete an online TAG form and bring an unofficial transcript through current enrollment to appointment. Go to www.admissions.uci.edu/tag for more information;
  • (3) Schedule an appointment to meet with a UC Irvine Admissions Counselor.*

*Meet with a UC Irvine Admissions Counselor

Make an appointment with a UC Irvine Admissions Counselor at your community college's Transfer Center or telephone the UC Irvine Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools at (949) 824-6703. The meeting should be scheduled sometime during the six weeks prior to the closing of the priority filing period for the quarter you wish to enter UC Irvine. Do not wait until the last week of that six-week period, when typically the waiting time to see a counselor is quite long. If you meet the conditions on the "Selection Guidelines," you will be informed of your preliminary provisional admission to UC Irvine at the time of your meeting.
